Weed Control Tips

If you’re ready to get serious about gardening, here are some things for you to consider. Some seeds for various vegetables and flowers can carry extra seeds in them.

You can buy weed-free seeds that are certified, but if you do, be prepared to spend more. Otherwise, here are five ways you practice proper weed control.

1. Mulching Is a Must

One thing that mulching does is that it provides a barrier for weeds. Organic material like wood chips forms a protective layer over the ground. If the weeds can’t get sunlight, they don’t grow.

This method will stop most weeds, but some species of weeds will still be able to set roots. Mulching is one of the best ways of how to clear a garden full of weeds.

2. Tilling May Be a Problem

When you till up your garden, you are bringing up seeds that could have remained buried. In some cases, these will give birth to weeds. The less you disturb the ground of your garden, the better the weed control you will have. This is one of those weeding tips that many people don’t know.

3. Burn Away the Weeds

You don’t need to use fire in order to kill weeds. Instead, consider using boiling water to kill them. Pour it over the weeds, and they will die without you having to bend over and yank them out.

If you do elect to do this, be careful not to burn yourself or the plants you want to grow. This is one way of getting rid of weeds that resist other methods.

4. Drying out Weeds

One great way for how to clear weeds out of flower beds is to dry them out. You can do this with a variety of substances, they range from alcohol to vinegar. Remember that alcohol or vinegar will dry out any plant it comes into contact with. This tactic can take multiple applications to take full effect.

5. Crowd Your Garden

Weeds in gardens need space in order to grow. If you limit the open ground in your garden, you can choke weeds out and prevent them from becoming established. Lawn fertilization is also easier when everything is close together.

Weeds Are a Constant Battle

No matter how hard we try, it can be very difficult to keep up with weed control. If you fertilize properly, apply mulch, and stay on top of things, you will be successful. Sometimes there is no replacement for just tearing weeds out. Stay vigilant and don’t let weeds go to seed and you will have a garden others will envy.
